Description

A black and white pigment print photograph, entitled 'Blues Festival' by Tony Ray-Jones, taken in 1968. Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972) created most of his images of the British at work and leisure between 1966-1969. He found inspiration in two related sides of life, holidaying at the seaside and old customs and traditions, both of which presented the opportunity for people to interact with each other and their environment. His work commented on the English way of life, with a mixture of sadness and humour, revealing the eccentricity of the English in their leisure time. This image was selected from the original contact sheet by Martin Parr, printed from the original negative, and featured in the popular exhibition 'Only in England' in 2013.Digital image for exhibition quality print taken from a scan of the original Tony Ray-Jones negative. The image has been digitally retouched and a duotone has been applied digitally to emulate a vintage print.
