Description

Photograph of Pauline Boty by Lewis Morley. Pauline Boty (6 March 1938 – 1 July 1966) was a British painter and co-founder of the British pop art movement in the 1960's and was also an actress and broadcast journalist. Lewis Morley (1925 - 2013) was born Hong Kong to an English father and Chinese mother and was interned by the Japanese military during the Second World War. At the end of the war he emigrated to England, where he served in the RAF before studying art in Paris from 1952. His first photograph was published 1957, subsequently working for Tatler magazine and Royal Court theatre in the late 1950s. Morley started the Lewis Morley Studios at Establishment Club in London in 1961 and is best remembered for photograph of Christine Keeler (born 22 February 1942). In 1971, Morley emigrated to Australia and worked on studio and commercial photography (food, architecture, interior design) until retiring in 1987. In 1987 the National Portrait Gallery, London held a retrospective exhibition of his works and the Art Gallery of New South Wales held a retrospective exhibition in 2006. Morley was appointed to the Order of Australia in 2010.
