Description
The miners wait on the platform during the afternoon of 21 June 1919, the day the report of the Royal Commision into the Coal Industry was presented at Blackpool's football ground. The Royal Commision recommended the nationalisation of the industry, which had been taken over by the government during World War I. This was the preference of the miners themselves but in 1921 the government decided to return the coal mines to private ownership.
Miners resting at Central Station, Blackpool, 21 June 1919.
