Woman plucking tea leaves, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), January 1945. A female Tamil worker wearing a saree, is shown harvesting leaves on a tea plantation in Ceylon. The large basket on her back is supported by a strap balanced on her head. Each acre of plantation field averaged 3,500 tea bushes, with approximately three ounces of tea obtained per year, from each bush. Photograph by Reuben Saidman.
