Description
Lithograph by J Stiesberger of Salzburg, entitled 'Rupertsbergplatzl - Monumente des heil Rupertus und Sigismundus', showing a view of tourists and guards in an underground chamber, holding lamps to illuminate monuments carved out of the rock salt of St Rupertus and King Sigismundus of Hungary, both of whom had asociations with the area around the mines. This lithograph is one of eight salt mining scenes taken from a booklet entitled 'Durrenberg und seine Grubenfahrt' ('Durrenberg and its Mine Rides') by Stiesberger, designed as a souvenir for tourists visiting the famous salt mines at Durrnberg (modern spelling), near Salzburg, Austria.
