Description
View of the 'Making the Modern World' gallery, showing the Rocket, designed by Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) and George Stephenson (1781-1848) and built in 1829. It became famous after winning the Rainhill Trials, a competition designed to find the most suitable locomotive for haulage on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. In the background is an early pasenger plane, the Lockheed 10A Electra, serial no 1037, built in 1935.
