Brodie (b 1850) was educated at the College of Physical Science at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. After serving a pupilage, Brodie was employed in a number of engineering roles including Asistant Engineer for the Corporation of Liverpool Tramway Works and Chief Engineer at the Whitehaven Corporation. He invented three-way tram points, gas lamps for street lighting and reinforced concrete foundations. Plate taken from 'British Engineers and Allied Profesions' (1908) edited by W T Pike.
