Carte-de-visite by Mayall of Queen Victoria (1819-1867). John Jabez Edwin Mayall (1810-1901) was an American photographer who travelled to England, first managing the studio of Antoine Claudet (1797-1867) in London, then opening one of his own. He made carte-de-visites of Queen Victoria and the Royal family in the 1860s, supposedly selling over 100,000 copies of them. Carte-de-visites became very popular during this time.
