Photograph showing miners and their families arriving at Talbot Road station, Blackpool, on 21 June 1919. The miners are heading to the football ground for the presentation of a Royal Commision report into the coal industry. The Royal Commision recommended the nationalisation of the industry, which had been taken over by the government during World War I. This was the preference of the miners themselves but in 1921 the government decided to return the coal mines to private ownership.
