Description
Steam locomotive entering Templecombe, 6 June 1949. This British Railways 2P clas 4-4-0 locomotive No 40569, built for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) was part of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway which had been formed in the 1860s to provide a route from the Midlands and the North to the new resort of Bournemouth. The line, closed by 1966, pased through some of the most picturesque parts of the West Country. Photograph by J F Henton.
