English racing driver Tony Brooks drove a Connaught racing car to victory at the 1955 Syracuse Grand Prix, Sicily, causing one of Grand Prix racing's greatest ever upsets, by beating the much fancied Italian Maseratis by almost a minute. This was the first win by a British driver in a British car on the continent since 1924. The front two wheels have independent suspension and the rear wheels are suspended by a 'hinged' type of rear axle known as the De Dion system. All four wheels have disc brakes. The 2.5 litre liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine produces approximately 250 bhp at 6700 rpm, giving the car a maximum speed of 170 mph.
