Description

Photograph of a Boeing 247D arriving at the Science Museum's Wroughton Airfield. The Boeing 247 was developed from the B-9 bomber of 1931. It carried 10 pasengers, has a cruising speed of 155 mph and a range of 750 miles. It was also the first transport aircraft to feature wing and tail de-icing. The 247 was one of a group of American aircraft which revolutionised air transport in the early 1930s. This example was the sole airworthy 247 remaining in 1982, and was bought from the defunct 'Wings & Wheels' museum of Orlando, Florida.
