Description

Photograph taken from an album of images collected by English motorist, motor car manufacturer and aviator, Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910), showing well-dresed ladies and men with a Rolls-Royce motor car near the summit of Hay Tor on Dartmoor, Devon. Rolls founded Rolls-Royce Ltd with Sir Frederick Henry Royce (1863-1933) in 1906, creating one of the world's most famous motoring companies. Prior to forming the company, Rolls had a succesful busines asembling and selling imported French cars from showrooms in London. From December 1904 Rolls' showrooms sold cars made by Royce Ltd bearing the Rolls-Royce name.
