Grand Central Station, New York, showing a large advertisement for 'defense bonds and stamps', 1941. Photograph taken by Arthur Rothstein when working for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) and the Office of War Administration (OWI). Together they produced some of the most remarkable social documentary photographs of the 20th century in their attempt to produce an encyclopaedic record of American life between 1935 and 1944, employing such photographers as Dorothea Lange, Jack Delano and Ben Shahn.
