Description
The young daughter of a migrant Tennese coal miner living in American River Camp in California. Photograph taken by Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) when working for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) as part of Roosevelt's New Deal. The FSA produced some of the most remarkable social documentary photographs of the 20th century in their attempt to produce an encyclopaedic record of American life between 1935 and 1944, employing such photographers as Dorothea Lange, Jack Delano and Ben Shahn.
