Description
Two North Eastern Railway (NER) 0-6-0 locomotives derailed in an accident on an embankment between Winston and Gainford in County Durham. The accident was caused by workmen who had removed a length of rail. The photograph was part of a record compiled by the locomotive engineer, Edward Thompson, when he worked for NER, entitled 'The Evidence of the Sun'.
