Lithograph by T G Dutton after a painting by Oswald Walters Brierly of 1852, showing HMS 'Agamemnon' getting under way from Spithead, near Portsmouth, Hampshire. Launched in 1852, Agamemnon was the the first British battleship to be built with screw propulsion. She served during the Crimean War as flagship of the Royal Navy's Black Sea Fleet, and in the 1850s was involved in early attempts to lay a transatlantic telegraph cable.
