Description
The Duke and Duches of Windsor with their dog, preparing to board the liner Queen Elizabeth at New York. Edward VIII (1894-1972) was given the title Duke of Windsor after he abdicated in 1936 to be with Wallis Simpson. Constitutionally, he could not marry a divorcee and remain on the throne. His wife, formerly married to Ernest Simpson, was born Besie Wallis Warfield.
