Description
Print by E Kirkhall showing a group of riders dismounted from their horses observing a total solar eclipse. The title of the mezzotint indicates that the eclipse occurred on the 11 May 1724 and was viewed from Haradon Hill near Salisbury, England. Totality for this eclipse was seen along a northwesterly line from central Ireland to South Wales and South West England. This print is attributed to the gentleman antiquary, William Stukeley (1687-1765) and shows a somewhat cloudy and threatening sky at the time totality for this eclipse.
