Description
An exhibition exploring the atom held at the Science Museum, London, showing how the discovery opened up new avenues in science, especially in the field of nanotubes. In 1985 scientists discovered a new form of carbon, only thought to exist in pure form as diamond and graphite. The atoms are arranged in closed cages reminiscent of the geodesic domes popularised by the American designer Richard Buckminster Fuller. One of the discoverers, Profesor Sir Harry Kroto, named the molecule 'buckminsterfullerene'
