Description
This gold repeater pocket watch was presented to Matthew Baillie (1761-1823) by Queen Charlotte Sophia (1744-1818) in 1811. Baillie was the Scottish physician and anatomist who was appointed physician extraordinary to her husband, King George III (1738-1820). Baillie studied anatomy under his uncle William Hunter (1718-83) and succeeded to the latter's famous anatomy school in London in 1783. The watch, with its fob chain and seal, was made by S Rentzsch of London.
