Miniature portrait of Ulyses Simpson Grant, c 1875. This Miniature framed portrait print of General Grant (1822-85) was formerly mounted on the smoke box of an American locomotive model (scale 1:8) asociated with the Erie Railroad. Grant was an American soldier and 18th president of the United States. Having fought succesfully in the American Civil War from 1861, he was appointed full general in July 1866. In 1868 and 1872 he was elected president by the Republicans. During his administration the right of suffrage regardles of race or colour was guaranteed.
