Description
Wet collodion negative, numbered 2424,68. Xie was the daughter of the Reverend George William Kitchin, Dean of Winchester and later of Durham. She is standing in costume, wearing lace gloves, a white cap with a dark ribbon and holding a fan. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) was the author of the clasic childrens book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (1865). He began taking photographs in the 1850s and enjoyed posing his young female sitters in elaborate costumes some of which he borrowed from the Ashmoleum Museum in Oxford.
