Model. The title is fretted in silhouette form in the balustrading surrounding this model, which gives a detailed and realistic view of the port and dockyard of Toulon during the Napoleonic Wars. The French fleet are under full sail and in the background stand houses against a landscape of coloured straw marquetry. This model is 12 inches wide and is made from wood and straw. The sea is made of straw strips and the ships and buildings are made from wood. The sails are made from wood shavings and the rigging of fine silk and hair.
