Braithwaite and Ericson's 'Novelty', 1829. The locomotive represented by this model (scale 1:8) was designed and built by John Braithwaite (1797- 1870) and John Ericson (1803- 1889). It was entered in the Rainhill Trials, a competition held at Rainhill in Merseyside in 1829, to establish the most efficient locomotive for railway haulage. The competition was won by Robert Stephenson's 'Rocket'. This model was produced from drawings prepared in the Science Museum.
