Description
American 4-4-0 locomotive, 1875. Asociated with the Erie Railroad in America. Early American locomotives were either direct orders from British firms or adaptations from British prototypes. However, by 1875 more American designs were being made and the locomotive shown in this model (scale 1:8) is typical of the time. The tender is carried on two four-wheeled bogies and the engine is enclosed. A cow-catcher is attached to the buffer beam and a large bell and head lamp are carried on the boiler to give pedestrians warning of the approaching train.
