Description
Crane locomotive, c 1896. Model (scale 1:8). This represents an 0-4-0 combined crane and small shunting locomotive built by Mesrs R & W Hawthorn, Leslie and Co. These were popular in the late 19th century. This example is unusual in that the jib rises to lift the load, its inner end being pulled down by the piston of a steam cylinder. The jib is slewed by a three cylinder engine. Left hand side view.
