Four-cylinder compound locomotive with tender, Western Railway of France, 1901. Model (scale 1:10). The powerful pasenger locomotive represented by this model was designed by Cerault and produced at the Batignolles Railway works in France. The compound locomotive was introduced in Britain as early as 1850 but did not become popular as its chief advantages, low fuel and water consumption, did not apply in a country where there was cheap fuel and ample water.
