Description
This silver pomander, decorated with intricate open-work filigree, has angular shoulders, a tapered body and a tall, cylindrical lid. Pomanders are small ornamental containers filled with aromatic substances and were originally designed to be kept about the person, in the belief that they both perfumed the air and warded off disease and plague.
