Description
After the Great Fire of London in 1666, English architect Sir Christopher Wren (1632- 1723) drew designs for the rebuilding of the whole city, although his scheme was never implemented. In 1669 he designed the new St Paul's Cathedral, 51 churches in the city of London, and many other public buildings, such as the Royal Exchange and Greenwich Observatory. He also made various additions to Hampton Court Palace. Knighted in 1673, Wren held posts at Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle, becoming an MP in 1685. He is buried in St Paul's.
