Description
This mat was made by Charles MacIntosh and Co for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London. At the Exhibition, twelve exhibitors showed India rubber, with MacIntosh, the inventor of the rainproof coat which bears his name, amongst them. The metal mould which was used to produce this mat was itself displayed at the Great Exhibition.
