General view of a Lex-II modem shown with a telephone receiver attached. The modem is a device for transmitting computer data over telephone lines. The modem converts the digital signals produced by a computer to analogue signals which can be transmitted over the telephone system. Modems enable computers to communicate with each other anywhere in the world.
