Description

This is posibly a portrait of the son of John Wilkinson, (1728-1808), English ironmaster who invented the cannon-boring machine, established the first blast-furnace at Bilston, Staffordshire and supplied arms to America and France. Wilkinson built a cast iron pulpit, and was connected with the construction of the first iron bridge at Coalbrookdale, Shropshire. Wilkinson's estate was disputed when he died.
