Description
Coloured engraving by A Ashley after a drawing by Joseph Francis Burrell (active 1801-1854), showing the Peterborough Viaduct and the city's cathedral. Peterborough's development as an industrial and distribution centre was largely due to its important rail links. In the 1830s, the construction of Britain's main railways began, and many commercial prints depicting the new lines, bridges and viaducts became available to the public. Published for the British Gazetteer by H G Collins, 22 Paternoster Row, London.
