Description
Coloured lithograph, drawn and lithographed by J C Bourne, showing the bridge built to carry the London and Birmingham Railway over the Grand Junction Canal at Nash Mills, Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. In the 1830s, the construction of Britain's main railways began, and many commercial prints depicting the new lines, bridges and viaducts became available to the public. In 1839, Bourne published a collection of 30 prints in book form entitled 'The London and Birmingham Railroad', illustrating Robert Stephenson's newly built railway, which opened in 1837-1838. Printed by C Hullmandel and published by J C Bourne, 19 Lamb's Conduit Street, and Ackermann & Co, Strand, London.
