Description

In 1834 Michael Loam (1798-1871) started work on the first man engine to be used in Cornwall. Inspired by German designs it was finally erected at the Tresavean mine in 1842. Constructed of a series of moving platforms, the man engine was a way of quickly transporting miners up and down deep mine shafts.
