Description
This tunnel, which ran from Edge Hill to Lime Street, Liverpool, was designed by the engineer, William MacKenzie (1794-1851), and was one of the first railway tunnels ever constructed. The Liverpool & Manchester Railway was designed by its chief engineer, George Stephenson (1781-1848) and opened in September 1830.
