Description
Painting by Isaac Shaw showing the 'Liverpool' locomotive hauling a train of goods wagons, and the 'Fury' locomotive hauling carriages full of cattle. The Liverpool & Manchester Railway, which joins the cities of Liverpool and Manchester, was the world's first intercity railway. It was built under the supervision of chief engineer George Stephenson (1781-1848) and was opened in 1830. It was one of the pioneering routes during the early days of railways.
