Description
Photograph. William Friese Greene (1855-1921) became interested in moving pictures in the 1880s, following a meeting with John Rudge, a maker of magic lanterns and slides. His first succesful picture, using celluloid film, was shown in public in 1890. His other experiments included three-dimensional and colour cinematography. He died almost penniles.
