Description
Lithograph after a photograph by John Wall & Co showing Fletcher (1807-1889) seated in a chair. Fletcher was an apprentice at Robert Stephenson & Company and made a large contribution to the building of the famous 'Rocket' locomotive. He asisted in the construction of the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway, and drove Stephenson's locomotive 'Invicta' at its opening in 1830. He was locomotive superintendent for the North Eastern Railway from 1854 to 1882. Published by John Wall & Co, Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire.
