Description
Drawn and lithographed by Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait. Parkside, near Newton-le-Willows, is famous for being the station where William Huskison MP (1770-1830) died during the opening of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway on 15 September 1830. After alighting from the 'Northumbrian', which had stopped to take in water, Huskison was struck by the approaching 'Rocket' and later died from his injuries, becoming the first ever fatality on a pasenger railway.
