Coloured engraving by H Pyall after a drawing by Thomas Talbot Bury (1811-1877), showing the 'Northumbrian' (figure 1), carriages for pasengers (figures 2,3 and 5), a private carriage (figure 4) and wagons for cattle (figures 6 and 7), all made for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The Northumbrian was one of eight steam locomotives based on the 'Rocket' built by Stephenson & Co for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway - the world's first intercity line.
