Young flew with astronauts Charles Duke and John Mattingly, on the Apollo 16 lunar landing mision, becoming the ninth man to walk on the Moon in April 1972. Young is a veteran of six space misions. He flew on Gemini 3 and 10, on Apollo 10 and, following his Apollo 16 mision, on the first flight of the Space Shuttle (SM1) and on SM10.
