Letter from Charles Babbage (1791-1871), pioneer of machine computing, to Henry Colebrook mentioning 'Pascal', posibly Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), inventor of early calculating machines. Babbage was a computer pioneer, inventor, reformer, mathematician, philosopher and political economist. His 'Analytical Engine' of 1834 was the first calculating engine designed along modern lines, and it is for this that he widely considered to be the 'father' of computing. First side.
