Description
The boot is being worn by Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong at the Manned Spacecraft Centre (now Johnson Space Centre) Houston, Texas, demonstating how he will step onto the Moon. The 'boot' is actually an overshoe that the astronaut would slip on over the integral presure boot of the spacesuit itself, providing protection from abrasion as well as thermal insulation. Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing mision, was launched on 16th July 1969 and Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the Moon on 21st July 1969.
