Description
The third stage of the rocket is being raised in the Vehicle Asembly Building at the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, Florida, for mating with its second stage. The S- IVB is powered by a single J2 engine which provides a thrust of 225,000 lb. The three-stage Saturn V was the largest rocket ever built, and was used by NASA on all its manned misions to the Moon. Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing mision, with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin and Michael Collins on board, was launched on 16th July 1969.
