Description
Detail. The first to attempt colour cinematography, F Marshall Lee and Edward Turner designed a camera which recorded red, green and blue separations as succesive frames on 38mm film. The projector had a triple gate and lens which superimposed three frames simultaneously on the screen. As the film pased through the projector, a rotating filter wheel behind the gate ensured each frame was shown in its appropriate colour. The proces proved impractical but was adapted by G A Smith who invented the Kinemacolor proces in 1906.
