Description

The medal was presented to Clarkson by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. It is inscribed: 'Presented to James Clarkson, engine driver, for extraordinary vigilance and promptitude in stopping his Train near Chorley on the 5th of July 1861, and thereby preventing a collision with another Train, which had been accidentally thrown off the line'.
