Description
Detail of model while under construction (scale 1:50) in 1981. This Swedish 64-gun warship sank on her maiden voyage in 1628, 1500 yards from shore. The cause of her los was lack of stability, which was produced by the combined effects of a narrow beam, a high centre of gravity and the low height above sea level of the gun ports. She was 234 ft long, 37 ft 6 ins in breadth, with a draught of 16 ft. She was raised from her resting place on the bottom of Stockholm harbour in 1956 by Anders Franzen. This model was built in the Science Museum, London by Jack King.
