Description
Model (scale 1:48). This turbine steamer was built in 1922 at Jarrow, in the Tyneside dockyards, for the British Tanker Co Ltd. She was specially constructed for the transport of oil in bulk. The increased subdivision of such vesels is esential, to avoid too great a free surface of oil which would endanger their stability, to accomodate oils of various densities, and to facilitate trimming of the ship. The 'British General' was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic by the Germans in 1940.
